1. Overview
U-tube heat exchanger is a kind of shell and tube heat exchanger, which consists of tube sheet, shell, tube bundle and other parts. Each tube of U-tube heat exchanger is bent into U shape, and the inlet and outlet are installed on both sides of the same tube sheet. The head is divided into two chambers by a partition, so that each tube can be freely expanded and contracted without being related to other tubes and shells.
2.Parameters
No. |
Name |
Note |
Determinants |
1 |
D-h |
Shell diameter |
Determined by the flow rate and flow velocity of the fluid |
2 |
n |
Number of pipes |
Determined based on required heat transfer area and fluid flow rate |
3 |
d-o |
Tube outer diameter |
Select according to heat transfer requirements and fluid conditions |
4 |
d-i |
Tube inner diameter |
affects the flow rate and heat exchange efficiency of the fluid |
5 |
L |
The length of the pipe |
related to the overall design size of the heat exchanger |
6 |
t |
Tube sheet thickness |
The tube sheet is the connecting part between the pipe and the shell, and the thickness affects its strength and pressure resistance. |
7 |
v-h |
Shell side velocity |
Affects the heat transfer efficiency and pressure drop of the heat exchanger. |
8 |
v-t |
Tube side velocity |
Higher velocity can enhance heat transfer, but may also increase pressure drop. |
9 |
U |
Heat transfer coefficient |
U value is affected by factors such as fluid type, flow rate, temperature difference, surface roughness, etc. |
10 |
A |
Heat transfer area |
Design the required heat transfer area based on factors such as fluid flow rate and temperature difference. |
3. The advantages of U-tube heat exchanger
The tube bundle can float freely without considering temperature difference stress, and can be used in large temperature difference occasions;
It has only one tube sheet, a small number of flanges, and few leakage points;
U-tube heat exchanger is reliable and low in cost;
Simple structure, light weight, suitable for high temperature and high pressure conditions.
4. The disadvantages of U-tube heat exchangers
It is difficult to clean the inside of the tube. Since the tube needs to have a certain bending radius, the utilization rate of the tube sheet is low;
The innermost tube spacing of the tube bundle is large, and the shell side is prone to short circuit. When the flow rate in the tube is too high, it will cause serious erosion to the U-shaped bend section, affecting its service life;
If the inner tube is damaged, it cannot be replaced, so the scrap rate is high;
It is difficult to replace the tube, and there are few tubes arranged on the tube sheet.
